Do you ever dilute your point of view to gain acceptance from your audience? Problem is, a diluted message rarely engages people. When you’re self-editing, you lose your flow (i.e., your passion and ease) – your authenticity suffers and, along with it, your ability to persuade. Think about this: Are you overestimating opposition to your message? Gently investigate: maybe you can isolate the sticking point and address it head on rather than dilute your entire presentation. Is there room for lightness and humour? Maybe you can use humour or some other inventive approach to either release some tension before you speak (see my post, Provoke with Photography) and/or frame your true point of view differently. Think about a metaphor, either visual or poetic.
