Get excited about solution-finding!
Find your way to good ideas, fast.
Experience the added value in the process
• Engagement. A focused, creative and efficient collaboration often nurtures the bond that team
members have with each other, and with the work.
• Skills. As part of the solution-finding process, teams learn and practice skills associated with
innovation, communication, collaboration, planning and process design.
• Tools. Anything we develop to help solution-finding can be re-used in other projects.
• Ideas. Our creative process often pops ideas that benefit other projects.
• Relationships. Where collaboration with stakeholders is required to advance the project, we
design it to also advance the relationship.
WWADI | A.K.A. THE WAY WE’VE ALWAYS DONE IT
• It's the opposite of innovation.
• It's not knowing what you don't know – if you have always done the same thing in response
to a certain situation you may not realize there are other ways to go.
• It's not a bad thing – standards and processes are generally a good thing; they maintain order
and consistency. However, solution-finding often requires us to step outside WWADI.
Get past the things that slow a team down
• Issues with thinking in new ways – a.k.a. WWADI
• Conflict of priorities – other work takes precedence
• Lack of clarity or alignment – team not united in purpose, roles and priorities
• Stalled process – team not sure how to start, how to make progress or how to finish
• Overwhelmed state – too much information, too many opinions or too many options to consider
• Insufficient skills or experience – not all team members can contribute at the level required
• Insufficient resources (people, time, money)
FUN is a benefit of the process!
For example, we use a sandwich metaphor
to gently encourage each other to get to
the point. This tool is also part of the Communications Skills workshop.
